CONNECTICUT REPUBLICANS SEEK FEDERAL AND STATE INVESTIGATIONS INTO BRIDGEPORT VOTING PROCESS
Preliminary inquiry reveals “significant deficiencies, irregularities and improprieties”
NEW BRITAIN – Based on a preliminary inquiry conducted by its attorneys, the Connecticut Republican Party today requested that federal and state law enforcement officials conduct an investigation into the voting process in Bridgeport.
Ross Garber, a partner in the Hartford, CT and Washington, D.C. offices of Shipman & Goodwin LLP, was engaged by the Connecticut Republican Party to conduct a preliminary inquiry into widespread reports of Election Day issues in Bridgeport.
Based on that inquiry, Garber today sent a letter to the United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut and the Chief States Attorney for the State of Connecticut in which he said the Connecticut Republican Party uncovered evidence that the voting process in Bridgeport was plagued by “significant deficiencies, irregularities and improprieties, most notably in connection with the creation and distribution of ballots; the counting of votes; and the tabulation of election results.” The letter indicates that these issues “may have led to the disenfranchisement of those qualified to vote in the November 2 election and the violation of the rights of citizens of Connecticut under the state and federal Constitutions.”
The Connecticut Republican Party pledged its cooperation with any investigation of these issues.
Copies of the letters can be found below.
